| Abstract | This study deals with the economic scheduling of electric power generation suitable for on-line application, an attempt first made to develop a model whose objective is to minimize the generation costs subject to generator limitations and line flow constraints. The D.C. approximation is used to simplify computations and to allow prompter response to line outage conditions. Generator cost characteristics are linearized in order to allow the application of the linear programming (LP) technique for the solution of the problem. The relatively improved speed of solution is due to the reduced mathematical model developed by means of efficient constraint manipulation and logical simplifications. The developed model reduces the number of constraints by effectively choosing the line constraints that are likely to be critical, this number being small compared to t he large number of possible constraints. The study also includes comparisons with two other more exact methods, namely: Lagrange-Kuhn-Tucker technique and the search technique with penalty function and Lagrange multipliers. The model has been applied to the Philippine system condition for (1981) outage assessment. The solution of the formulated problem has shown to be fast and considerably reliable for the on-line application for which it was intended. |
