AbstractThis thesis was concerned with the consolidation characteristics of Rangsit Clay. An extensive consolidation tests were conducted to study the stress history, the compressibility and the rate of compression of this clay. The new results were presented with the past results. ยท It was found that the Weathered and Soft Rangsit Clay shown the apparent overconsolidation. The maximum past pressure is very well defined by the small load increment and duration. The compressibility of the clay was less affected by the specimen size. However, the specimen size played the major role in the rate of compression. The results of consolidation tests in horizontal direction show the less horizontal maximum past pressure than that in the vertical direction. The rate of compression in horizontal direction was always faster than that of the vertical direction.
