| Abstract | Quality control is an important part of every construction project since it ensures that the finished product fulfills the stated standards and expectations. Effective project quality control is even more important in the context of design and build contracts, when the contractor is responsible for both design and construction. This article analyzes the SMC Factory Project as a case study, emphasizing the need of project quality control for contractors on these contracts. The SMC Factory Project is an excellent example of a design and build contract, in which the contractor is responsible not only for delivering the construction but also for ensuring that the design satisfies the client's specifications. This case study dives into the problems encountered as well as the solutions used to maintain and improve the project's quality. According to the case study, effective project quality management begins with a solid quality technique. This plan should outline quality standards, methods, and responsibilities, ensuring that each stakeholder understands their role in project success. The contractor created a thorough quality management strategy for the SMC Factory Project, which was critical in maintaining high standards throughout the project's lifecycle. In addition, the case study evaluates how the contractor used quality control methodologies and quality assurance systems to monitor and enhance project quality. The implementation of comprehensive inspection and testing processes, as well as regular quality audits, helped in the early detection and correction of discrepancies. In conclusion, the SMC Factory Project is an excellent case study for emphasizing the need of project quality management in design and build contracts. It demonstrates the importance of a well-defined quality strategy, as well as proactive quality control and assurance measures, in ensuring effective project delivery that meets or exceeds the client's expectations. This case study offers useful knowledge and lessons for contractors and project managers involved in comparable contracts, highlighting the practical benefits of putting project quality control earlier. |
