| Abstract | Currently, Vietnam's construction industry is developing rapidly, many projects from small to large are invested heavily. As many construction projects are implemented, many quality problems also occur. In particular, the main contractor cannot manage subcontractors, causing construction quality to not meet requirements. From the demand of project quality management, an advance theory to perform and control projects was developed. It includes the processes for incorporating the organization's quality policy regarding planning, managing, and controlling project and product quality requirements in order to meet stakeholders' objectives. Project Quality Management also supports continuous process improvement activities as undertaken on behalf of the performing organization. However, when applying this concept to projects in Vietnam, there is still a gap between theory and practice, when the media mentions many projects that do not meet quality requirements. It should be noted that the quality of the project depends a lot on the quality of construction of the subcontractors under the management and control of the project general contractor. This study will review quality management theory and focus on the quality management practices of the Main Contractor to control subcontractors during the construction phase in Vietnam. The results of this study will provide some recommendations to improve the Main Contractor's Quality Management System. |
