| Abstract | After enjoying the continuous economic growth for many years, Asian countries start to encounter the economic recession beginning from Thailand in July 1997 following by Indonesia, South Korea, etc. The consulting business, which focuses on people and knowledge, has been impacted from the economic crisis due to the decrease of contracted projects in public and private market segments. MAA Group, a civil engineering consulting organization based in Taipei Taiwan, has expanded its business into the pacific economic booming region including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and China for the past 25 years. Since most of large projects come from the government infrastructure, the company business has also been affected by the economic crisis, especially in Bangkok office. This research study first reviewed the characters of consultant business in three subsidiaries including Taipei, Bangkok and Singapore, to analyze the impact in market, organization, culture, technology and financial aspects from the economic recession. Through interview and questionnaire surveys, external environment condition as well as internal function of the three organizations are reviewed and evaluated. Strategy analysis frameworks such as value-chain model and SWOT analysis (TOWS matrix) are adapted to identify the characters of each subsidiary and implementation plans are also proposed in dealing with the problems under different economic scale, national culture, government policy and it’s own core competence strength. In looking forward to the 21s1 century, what will be the expected problem and how the MAA Group should prepare itself in advance to face the difficulty are finally concluded. |
