AbstractInformation Technology (IT) governance is a critical aspect of modern educational institutions, ensuring that IT resources are used effectively and align with the institution's goals. In Nepal, universities and educational institutions face unique challenges in implementing robust IT governance frameworks. This study aims to address these challenges by developing an integrated IT governance framework tailored for university-level institutions in Nepal. By understanding the specific needs of these institutions, this research provides insights relevant to the Nepalese education sector. The objectives of this research are to identify the current state of IT governance and practices in educational institutions in Nepal, assess similarities and differences and propose an integrated framework that can bridge the identified gaps. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with key stakeholders and quantitative surveys among faculty and students. Data were analyzed using various tools, including NVivo for qualitative data, and JASP and Excel for quantitative data. This comprehensive approach ensured a holistic understanding of the IT governance landscape in these institutions. Findings from the study indicate that while some IT governance practices are in place, there is a significant need for a more structured and comprehensive framework. The study highlights that established models such as COBIT, ITIL, or ISO/IEC 27001, when adapted to the specific context of educational institutions, can significantly improve IT infrastructure, decision-making processes, and overall institutional performance. The research also underscores the importance of involving various stakeholders in the governance process to ensure the framework's effectiveness and sustainability. In conclusion, this study contributes to the theoretical understanding of IT governance in educational settings and offers practical recommendations for improving IT management. The proposed integrated IT governance framework addresses the unique challenges faced by educational institutions in Nepal and provides a foundational model that can be adapted to other similar institutions. These findings are crucial for policymakers, administrators, and IT professionals aiming to enhance the governance and strategic use of IT in higher education.
