AbstractA fertilizer experiment with soybeans was conducted on the acid sulphate soils on Bangkok plain at the agricultural experimental station, Asian Institute of Technology, in the dry season 1977 in order to: (1) Clarify the relationships between the concentration of various nutrients at different stages of growth and yield together with nutrients concentration of plants at maturity. (2) On the basis of evaluation of the above relationships to develop methods of quantitative control of the nutritional status of young plant by top dressing wi.th fertilizers and hence control of final yield. (3) To enlarge and improve preliminary therapy models of N and P and to develop preliminary model for K. The experiment was a 3 x 3 x 3 systematic design including three levels and combinations of N, P and K. At 40 days after sowing, half of the plots were top dressed with various levels and combinations of N, P and K. Application of N increased growth and concentration of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and Zn when applied as basal and top dressing. Application of P also increased growth and the concentration of P, Ca Mg and further delayed maturity. Application of K increased the concentration of K and yield. Based on models of diagnosis and yield prognosis therapy models were developed. Testing of the models by comparing predicted results of chemical composition of soybean when top dressed with the actual results showed a close agreement indicating a high degree of reliability of the models (r=0.91).
