AbstractAn investigation is made of the surface disturbance produced by a submerged liquid jet which impinges upon an air-water interface. The jet discharges vertically upward from a circular orifice located a distance H below the water surface. Experimental results were obtained using water and a water-detergent mixture; each liquid having a different value of interfacial surface tension with air. The heights of the surface disturbance n obtained from laboratory measurements, were accurately predicted from theoretically derived equations for a range of the parameter n/H between 0.7 and 20.
