| Abstract | A method of arch dam analysis which employs various techniques of matrix algebra is presented. At first, flexibility matrices for both arches and cantilvers are developed. Then, using the compatibility of movements of the arches and cantilevers at their conjugate points, a matrix equation containing the unknown self-balancing forces is formed. Unknown forces are determined with a digital computer using matrix inversion and matrix multiplication programs. |
