| Abstract | An experimental program was made to determine the ultimate strength of prestressed concrete slabs subjected to concentrated loads using yield-line theory. Models of one rectangular and three square bridge slabs, post-tensioned and grouted, were tested to destruction. The results were incorporated with those of previous tests made in the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering making a total of seventeen slabs tested. It was verified that a logical prediction of the ’.ultimate load capacity of a prestressed concrete slab can be made using idealized yield-line patterns, provided that a reasonable assessment of ultimate moment of resistance is made, and that the transverse prestress is at least 20% of the value in the longitudinal direction. Suggestions are made as to the approach to use for different types of prestressed concrete slab, i. e. bonded or unbonded, over-reinforced or under-reinforced. Sample computations for each particular approach are illustrated. Experimental longitudinal load distribution coefficients were determined. This was done in order to compare with the theoretical distribution determined using orthotropic plate theory, which was adopted in computing the elastic design loads. ( |
