AbstractAs it is a good measure in mitigating water resources problems within the basin area, the storage requirement of the Bicol River Basin was herein studied the serve its purpose. Among the identified storage reservoir sites in the basin, the Pulantuna reservoir site has shown a great water-holding capacity to meet some water demand in the basin at the same time to help in minimizing flood water downstream. This reservoir was given regards in this study. The storage requirement for various drafts of the said reservoir was determined using various estimation techniques. The storage draft frequency curves are prepared to be utilized in the future economic reservoir design. The storage required to meet a draft of 90% of the mean flow was used for purposes of comparison of techniques used in this study, Later, a simulation analysis was run on reservoir size determined for each technique to see the behavior of the stored water if such a reservoir size will be adapted. This could be a good basis of comparison of techniques for it possesses more advantages than other estimation techniques. Due to limited recorded data, simulation analysis was used only to assist in the comparison. Previous research had been made where most of the available estimation techniques were used. The conclusions derived from the said research were verified in this study and was used as the primary basis of comparison. The modified Gould technique which was confirmed as the most superior of all the techniques when applied to many rivers in Australia was once again tried. Its application to Pulantuna River condition resulted in similar conclusion.
