| Abstract | Creep tests of plain drying concrete were conducted on two different mixes. The test specimens were 2.85 in. diameter, 12 in. high unsealed cylinders. The constant compressive stresses of various load histories, varying from 45 to 75 percent of the ultimate compressive strength at the day of creep testing, were applied at the age of 40 days. The loads were sustained for 30 days after which the load was removed for an addi¬ tional 30 days. Reloadings were made at the end of the unloading period. A mechanical model representing creep in concrete is proposed. The determination of the model constants is based upon one of the primary creep curves of each two concrete mixes. The model constants are used for predicting concrete creep under various load histories. The behavior of linear mechanical models is unable to give a re¬ sponse of concrete creep under high stress. It is necessary to intro¬ duce a non-linear function into the mathematical expression representing the behavior of the model. By comparison with experimental creep curves, the predicted creep during primary and unloading stages is found correct with a fair degree of accuracy. Theoretical creep on reloading becomes greater than the experimental creep. |
