AbstractThe research was conducted to study the effect of the parameters rotational speed (N), diameter (D), thickness (t), number of discs (n) and the density (p) and absolute viscosity (µ) of the liquid upon power consumption (P) in RBF units. The dimensional analysis of all the factors affecting power consumption gives. P/N3D5p = k [ (ND2p/µ)a, (t/D)b, n] where k, a, b are constants. Treating (t/D) , n as constants in the first phase, the equation may be written as P/N3D5p = b1 (ND2p/u)a Denoting P/N3D5p, (ND2p/µ) as Np and Nr respectively, the equation may be written in the log term as log Np = a log Nr + log b1 The above relationship was found valid as for all instances of n and t/D strong correlation co-efficient was found. The constants a and b1 were found by least square method. The constants a and b1 being function of t/D and n were regression ally analyzed with respect to t/D and n. However, b1 was found independent of n and has geometrical variation with respect to t/D. A simple equation relating a, t/D and n was developed as a= -1.795 - 0.063n - 2.642 t/D. At higher values a is independent of n.
