AbstractA procedure for the analysis of suspension bridge with stiffening truss was introduced by considering the cable as straight segments and was based on the so-called “deflection theory.” The influence line of HT was determined by the ap- plication of Muller-Breslau’s principle, and the static con- dition of the cable and the suspender, using the trial and error approach. The shear and moment of the stiffening truss were also computed. A suspension bridge with two-hinged stiffening truss on the main span was designed by the proposed method. The main span was 75 meters between towers and the panel length was assumed to be 2.5 meters. A preliminary design was made first. The influence line of HT was computed and the maximum moment and shear for the stiffening truss were determined. Finally the design of cables, towers, suspenders and stiffen- ing truss was checked. Two design drawings were included.
