AbstractDifferent growth curves are available in the literature for describing the growth of various biological, social and technological phenomena. This study aims to assess experimentally, how well different growth models work in the same application as well as how well each growth model works in different applications. The case used for analysis of the first part is that of forecasting non-renewable energy consumption patterns. All existing models of "growth with limit" have been applied to the same set of data for making alternative forecasts. Moreover, an empirical model proposed by Khan for energy consumption forecasting has also been evaluated. For the analysis of the second part, ten different cases were selected and each growth curve has been applied to those cases. In addition, the characteristics of different growth curves has also been studied in general terms. Results of the analysis are presented in a comparative form so as to help the forecasters to discriminate intelligently among the available growth curves.
