Abstract | This study is concerned with the investigation of rainy season effects on the selected soils of Bangkok Plain, namely Rangsit, Thanyaburi and Chachoengsao soil series, Three locations in each of the three soil series were selected at distances of 100, 300 and 600 meters away from the canal. Three soil depths of 0-30, 30- 60 and 60-90 ems, at each location were selected for monitoring periodically from June to October, the variations in the soil properties as influenced by climatological and watertable conditions, The canal waters were also studied for its quality assessment, The decrease in soil acidity and increases in salt concentration and sodium adsorption ratio were observed with the increase in soil depth. The decreases in soil acidity, salt concentration and bodium adsorption ratio were observed as the rainy season progressed Rangsit serie is more acidic and of more salt concemtration, which is followed by Thanyaburi and Chachoengsao soil series, No significant differences in pH values of the two upper soil depths were observed in all soil series, The pH value of Chachoengsao series rises comparatively faster, The pH values decreased after air-drying no influence of water source on soil properties was observed. The quality of the canal waters varied significantly. The lowering of the watertable below 65 ems. from soil surface increased soil acidity in a linear proportion, Under same watertable conditions, Chachoengsao serie behaved better for plant growth conditions, Strong reverse linear relationships were observed for the upper soil depth between pH and E.C, for all the three soil series. Reverse order polynomial relationship of second degree was observed between pH and E.C. values of canal waters. |
