AbstractThe elastic post-buckling behavior of stiffened and unstiffened rectangular plates under linearly varying edge compression is presented. Theoretical analysis of s imply supported plates with two different unloaded edge conditions is considered. The effects of initial imperfections are allowed for in the analysis. The theoretical investigation begins with the Marguerre 's compatibility equation and proceeds to obtain a solution by the energy method. In this paper, the collapse criterion is so specified that the mean membrane stress along the unloaded edge reaches the yield stress of the plate material. Numerical results are presented graphically and compared with some available test results.
