Abstract“I believe that people make their own luck by great preparation and good strategy.” - Jack Canfield After nearly 35 years of establishment and development, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Water Supply Joint Stock Company (BWACO) has been constantly growing, achieved many successes and become one of the efficiency-leading companies in the water supply sector in Vietnam. Following the gained achievements, in order to actively respond to the changes in the business environment and meet the expectations of stakeholders, the company set three strategic objectives to 2020: (1) Maintaining the leading position in the water supply sector in Vietnam, (2) Promoting BWACO brand across Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and (3) Optimizing the financial resources to increase profitability. In order to help the company formulate business strategies to achieve its business objectives to 2020, this report conducted an analysis of key factors of the business environment, and then a SWOT analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses inside BWACO, the opportunities and threats coming from the external environment. Based on the SWOT analysis, this report proposed three business strategies compatible with the company’s strategic objectives, which were prioritized using Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix tool: - - - Business strategy #1(1st priority): Meet the water needs of the areas efficiently, automate water plants and water supply network management, and control non revenue water. Business strategy #2 (2nd priority): Continue to improve the service quality to satisfy customers at the highest level, focusing on customer interactions. Business strategy #3 (3rd priority): Improve capability of financial investment (Formulating financial investment strategies, developing human resources specialized in financial investment) and increase financial investment in water supply companies. These strategies need to be implemented in a uniform and their priority order will be the basis for the company to allocate resources efficiently during planning and implementing the strategies. So as to concretize the above business strategies, this report also provided the overall plans at the level of board of management for each strategy. These overall plans will be the directions for the relevant departments and units of the company to make detailed plans and put the strategies into practice. In the detailed plans, the departments and units must clearly determine the costs needed for the work items. The total costs in the detailed plans will be the total budget in the overall plans.
