AbstractIn a coastal aquifer, an interface is formed between sea water and fresh water. In this study , moving of the interface corresponding to the ground water surface fluctuation was investigated. Ground water surface fluctuation was expressed in various forms of exciting functions namely; Suddenly rising, linearly rising, modified hydrograph, sinusoidal wave and unsteady uniform infiltration functions. Mathematical models were developed using continuity equation and Dupuit assumptions. Finite difference scheme was used to obtain numerical solutions of the differential equations. Experiments were conducted to verify the theoretical solutions. The equipment make use of the Hele-Shaw model which consist of two 6 ft by 4 ft by 1/2 in plexi glass plates placed vertically with a spacing of 1/16 in. The fluid used in the model were fresh water and lubricating oil to represent sea water and fresh water respectively.
