Abstract | A 3-point linkage dynamometer designed by SIRICHAIMANUS (1977) was modified to suit the implements of category I and II. The dynamometer consists two· rectangular beams for the lower links and one rectangular plate for the top link, Strain gages were mounted on all the .four sides of rectangular beam to measure the horizontal and vertical components of force in lower links1 Strain gages were also mounted on both the sides of rectangular plate to measure the horizontal component of force (compressive or tensile) in the top link. Total draft was determined by the algebraic sum of horizontal component of forces in top and lower l inks. Field tests were conducted with a 3-bottom moldboard plow and a disk plow. For moldboard plow, the specific draft varied from 103 to 150 kN/m2 for the speeds of 0.30 to 1.13 m/S at an average moisture content of 29.6 percent. For disk plow, the specific draft varied from 147 to 201 kN/m2 for speeds of 0.23 to. 1,19 m/S at an average moisture content of 27 .8 percent. For moisture content of 34.1 percent the specific draft for disk plow varied from 121 to 138 kN/m2 for speeds of 0.60 to 0.82 m/S. Power requirement increased with speed for both moldboard and disk plows. Draft and depth were linearly related with some random deviations along the test run. Calculated values of draft and specific draft based on soil properties namely cohesion (C) and angle of internal friction (0) were very close to the observed values in most of the cases. |
