Abstract | Two groups of timber piles were driven in Bangkok Clay at pile spacing of 1.00 m or 5 times the pile diameter. One of the group consisted of 16 piles, each was 7.80 m long and 18 cm in an average diameter. The other group consisted of 9 piles, 11.30 m long and 20 cm in an average diameter. Full scale load tests for determination of the failure load were performed on some single piles and on pile group for this present study. The results of the tests were compared t o the predicted ultimate bearing capacity which was determined by geostatic calculation. The values of the adhesion factor, a , in the soft clay compares well with previous investigations while the -value for the stiff clay is difficult to assess. The influence of drying crust and the mobilized point bearing capacity at failure were also studied herein. |
