Abstract | The report, by using the Wat Sroi Tong community as a case study, in intended to encourage related governmental agencies, concerned organizations and the community residents themselves to practice people's participation more confidently. Through series of discussions with several household members and informal leaders on people's participation approach, an obvious enthusiasm was noticed and later confirmed by local initiatives in implementing community improvement projects, all of which were financed by the residents themselves. The dynamic and complex nature of the study, based on pragmatic and intuitive decisions in the face of practical constraints, made it virtually impossible to comprehend all its ramifications. The concept as it is has evolved through the realization of the implication of its various aspects, and recognition of internal and external constraints which have pertinent bearing on the study. Simple Statistics, Kendall Coefficient of Concordance Index Number, Contingency Coefficient and Leadership Score have been computed to present the community's potential to participate and the structure of people's participation. From the findings it is confirmed that there is a full range of variables affecting slum improvement. The more people participate, the more they gain understanding of the planning process, more willingly improve their dwelling, more willingly settle down in the community and the satisfaction with their quality of life can be resumed. |
