Abstract | The Pattani Damsite is located on the Pattani river at Banglang Village, ·.Ban Nang Sata District, Yala Province, which is about 50 km South of Yala town. The construction of the dam will be completed in 1981. The dam is an earth rock fill structure founded on the sandstone shale formation of early Carboniferous age, unconformably overlying the argillite phyllite of Devonian and Silurian (?) age and is subjected to overthrusting by massive sandstone. The general trend of the bedding varies from Nl4°W, 27°sw and the dip varies from 26°NW to 44°NW. The surficial deposits in the study area consist of alluvial deposits residual deposits and the fill material. There are three types of faults traversing the study area. The thrust fault has the attitude of N10°.w, 28°w. The remaining strike slip faults and the normal faults trend in a north-westerly direction with steep dips. Numerous potential slip areas are found in natural slopes as well as in fill slopes. An engineering geological map, a geomorphological and drainage map and a documentation map were prepared, and previously prepared geologic maps were critically studied. The discrepancies between interpreted and actual geologic conditions were a misidentified formation and an over estimated material properties of the borrow material. |
