AbstractRoyal Thai Navy Dockyard is currently underconstruction at Pom Prachul. This thesis is a case study of this project concerned mainly with the geotechnical aspects. The object was to monitor all the activities, ranging from design to execution, which have been carried out in this project related to geotechnical engineering. The general construction sequence and the techniques employed in the installation of foundation and retaining structures have been presented along with a discussion. Moreover, problems encountered in the installation of foundations (owing to soft nature of Pom Prachul Clay) and the manner in which they were tackled have been dealt in detail. A probe was made into the problem of lateral displacement of piles and measures have been suggested to reduce the magnitude of this problem. Strut loads measured by means of electrical resistance strain gages in a dry dock excavation have also been presented.
