AbstractAn attempt was made to determine the general settlement characteristics of Bangna-Bang Pakong Highway. Renae, the time-settlement relationship and the values .of the parameters of the settlement were determined from the analysis of the available data and from the laboratory test results at two locations. The analysis was conducted at three different locations for post construction period and the curve fitting methods, based on one-dimensional primary consolidation approach, were used for a four layer system as well as for a single layer system. ·rt was found that .for a four layer system, the ·values of the coefficient of consolidation of the different layers, from the analysis of the time-settlement data, are 1-15 times less .than the laboratory values. ·on the other hand, the value of coefficient of consolidation from the analysis of a single layer system is 5-15 times greater than the value of the equivalent coefficient of consolidation obtained from . the laboratory tests for a single layer system. Though, a nonlinear regression analysis was also used to determine the time-settlement relationship and the values of the parameters of the settlement, it failed to give reasonable values of the parameters. A linear regression analysis was applied to determine the time-, settlement relationship for the post construction period at three different locations. The results showed that the range of the error of the calculated settlement is within± 5 percent of the observed settlement.
