AbstractA water quality index for rural water supply was developed using a modified DELPHI Technique accomplished by a panel of experts, and the WHO Standard Relationship Approach. Validation of the water quality index was conducted with data obtained from the NAM PONG irrigated downstream area and covered a period from October 1979 to December 1979: the 4 specific villages tested were located in Mahasarakham Province, i.e., BUA BAN; LAO BUA BAN; NONG BUA; and NONG LARM villages. The results indicated that the WHO Standard Relationship Approach of weighted arithmetic model was more responsive to changes in water quality condition, and the application clearly enumerated a high quality of rainwater sources together with an acceptable quality of drinking water in shallow wells.
