Abstract | A personnel function exists in all organizations. The major functions of personnel management center around providing and maintaining a cohesive and productive workforce. Personnel administration has gone through periods of growth and increased status. Due to the pressures of society demanding greater equity and the growth in government regulations, there is reason to anticipate critical and important role for personnel administration in years to come. Automation of a bad, inadequate system will produce a bad and inadequate system. The first task of a system analyst is to put the 'house--in··order' i.e. ' develop the diagnosis model incorporating the problem and its environment'. Such models developed must be done with the needs of the management and the users of the system to be of any use. This study is a system analysis of the Personnel Section of an academic institution. The institution selected for the study is the Asian Institute of Technology. The Institute is interested in the automation of the present manual system. The existing system is documented and analyzed before a modified integrated personnel that meets the needs is proposed. The system proposed has been designed with close consultation with the administration and the users of the system. Chapter 1 contains a brief introduction to the personnel function and to the Asian Institute of Technology. The Chapter also contains the purpose, scope and objectives of the study. The current trends in personnel management is discussed in Chapter 2. The methodology adopted for the study is described in Chapter 3. The summary of the analysis phase is stated in Chapter 4. The proposed integrated personnel system for the Institute is outlined in Chapter 5. Chapter 6 states the requirements and the alternatives that the Institute has for the automation to a c01nputer based personnel system. |
