AbstractThis study determines the feasibility of establishing a centralized computer system for cancer treatment by radiation for seven government hospitals in Bangkok. The computer will be used only for radiation treatment planning in the first stage and extended to other related functions in the following stages. The study is conducted by interviewing physicians, technicians and administrators in the radiotherapy Divisions of these hospitals. The information is analized and two alternative solutions are proposed. The first alternative is the modification of the existing computerized system for radiation treatment planning at Ramatibodi Hospital. The second alternative is to establish a new centralized computer system. The paper outlines the design of the proposed computer configuration and specifications. The estimated costs of the system as well as the average cost of the centralized treatment planning are also presented.
