Abstract | In this research, we study about a dry port that faces a typical problem, truck delay, which leads to overloaded storage areas due to extra containers that have not been picked up on time according to a normal schedule. The objective of this study is to find a solution for how many normal and spare areas we have to prepare to support these extra containers and can make maximum profit to the port owner. Because if the port makes too few spare areas, the port sometimes cannot contain all extra containers that appear to be in that time. As a result, the port owner needs to find emergency spare areas which can cost him a big amount of money. However, if the port makes too many spare areas, the port has to pay a lot of money for land cost or labor and machine cost that we have to put in these spare areas. So, if we can find the optimal values of these normal and spare areas to reduce the cost and maximize the profit for the port owner, it will be a good guideline when it comes to the port design process. |
