AbstractThis study presents a solution scheme for the Problem of the torsion of a cylindrical elastic bar partially embedded in a two layer elastic half-space. Cases corresponding to singular and non-singular stresses along the base perimeter are investigated . The governing equation is found to be a Freedom integral equation of the second kind notwithstanding the stress condition along the base perimeter. The solution to the governing equation is obtained by means of an approximate numerical method. Torque twist relationships for the two cases are presented for various depth radius ratios and elastic constants to ascertain the effects of stress singularity along the base perimeter on the solution.
