AbstractThe primary objectives of this study is to analyze the structural change of the Indonesian economy during its development efforts, in this case during PELITA I-II using the 1971 and 1975's input output tables issued by the government. The study was conducted by constructing the 19 aggregated transaction tables both for 1971 and 1975, then determining the structure of domestic products, the structure of supply and demand, the forward, backward and total linkage indices. These structures of interdependencies were constructed by computing the input coefficient table and the Leontief Inverse Matrix for both years. The assessment of the industrialization process was then made by these measures, resulting that the structural change of the Indonesian economy shows that the condition of the Indonesian economy is being improved, and that the process of development plan, particularly up till 1975 was seen to follow the unbalanced growth strategy. It was also found that the influence of mining and quarrying, particularly oil and natural gas, both to the domestic output and exports, was remarkable. Finally, the performance of manufacturing sectors was then analyzed using some selected indices created from the first results. The indicators showed that the manufacturing sectors were superior in the economy, highly dependent upon imports, highly capital intensive and have a higher growth rate compared to other ASEAN countries.
