AbstractSoils under cassava in the Rayong Province of the Eastern Part of Thailand were studied with respect to their present use, classification and suitability for cassava cultivation. The study was done by considering the amount, location and arrangement of the present land use, the type of soils used for cassava cultivation and their suitability. Beyond the focus on characteristics of the soils the further recommendation is attempted at the ways to increase the cassava's yield and how to maintain the quality of the soils by means of soil conservation practice. The study on the major characteristics of cassava is also included for the fulfilment of the study, The results show that the soils of Rayong Province are mostly moderately suited for cassava cultivation resulting in soil erosion and nutrient leaching with tend to detoriate the soils as long as the optimum care is neglected.
