AbstractThis study deals with an experimental investigation of the restoring force characteristics of cantilever-type reinforced concrete columns. The main objectives of this investigation are to obtain the dynamic load-deflection curves (the hysteresis loops), the equivalent column stiffness and the equivalent viscous damping factor of the column. The equivalent column stiffness and the equivalent viscous damping factor obtained from the various dynamic tests are discussed. The recorded dynamic hysteresis loops could provide continuous data which in tern can be used for the identification of parameters of a cubic equation model. The test results show that the column stiffness reduces rapidly with an increment of the deflection, even in small amplitude. The damping capacity have a tendency to increase with increasing deflection.
