Abstract | Soybean (SJ5) was irrigated at seven prefixed depletion levels in the Agricultural Experimental Field in AIT campus, for the purpose of obtaining an effective irrigation scheduling for the maximum yield. All the plots were equally treated with fertilizers, liming, intercultural and other field operations. The seasonal water consumption ranged from 310 mm to 450 mm excluding 70mm of the irrigation needed during germination. The effect of advection on the row yield was observed. Considerable effect of the water deficit or stress was observed in the 75% depletion plot. The irrigation at 40% depletion gave maximum leaf area index and drymatter equal to 4.25 and 103 g/plant, respectively. An increase in the stress decreased the shoot length., leaf numbers and pod numbers which were highest at 40% depletion plot. Irrigation at 40% depletion level gave maximum yield of 3312 kg/ha, and the highest water use efficiency of 8. 71 kg (seed)/ha /mm. The moisture depletion pattern was not affected by crop age or irrigation treatments. Deep percolation occurred at the rate of 1 mm/day. |
