AbstractThis s tudy attempts to review the process of rural electrification planning in Thailand. The roles of ditferent organizations engaged in the supply of electricity in Thailand are described first. Projects of the Provincial Electricity Authority(PEA) and their planning process are discussed in detail. Two case studies: one on the Village Electrification Project a nd the other on the Power Distribution system Reinforcement Project are presented in order to explain the existing planning proced ure. The methodology used in the selection of villages tor the Village Electritication Project is found to correspond to the algorithm tor solving a zero-one Knapsack Problem, population being used as the utility and distance from the high tension line as the cost.
