| Abstract | This techno-economic evaluation of the Philippine Coco-diesel Program was conducted based on the assumptions that coconut oil will be produced and utilized as fuel blend in the production of coco-diesel fuel. As an alternative fuel for diesel engines, performance tests were conducted on a 50-hp Gemini diesel engine coupled to a water-dynamometer. The technical evaluation was focussed on the engine performance at full load and variable load conditions. The results suggested that engine derating was experienced when run on coco-diesel fuel which was attributed to the low heating value of the coco-diesel fuel. However, the results showed the technical feasibility of coco-diesel as an alternative fuel for standard diesel engines without modifications. The economic evaluation was focussed on the economic feasibility of a 10-Ton/day Coconut oil mill, that will produce coconut oil solely for Coco-diesel Program. The Net Present Value (NPV) and discounted Cash Flow Rate of Return (DCFROR) were used as criterion for the acceptance and rejection of the project. A positive NPV was attained under base case conditions and DCFROR above the STSR. Under the assumed conditions the production of coconut oil for fuel application is favorable. |
