AbstractInventory management problems are common to all organizations. Firstly, this thesis concerns the systems analysis of purchasing, receiving and inventory sections of an academic institution. Then it aims to design and partially implement a computerized integrated MIS for the management of fixed assets. Data collection, interactive data entry and validation of input should be simple and efficient in a real environment. To achieve this, application programs are supported by DMS/CMS in terminal formatting services and an input form is designed. Several report and query processing modules have been designed to facilitate management decision making. The design is such that it may be augmented with subsystems and be interphased to form the integrated systems when required. The system is developed on an IBM 3031 machine under VM/370, using COBOL as the programming language, DMS/CMS for screen management and VSAM for file management. Most significant, apart from the data processing considerations, is the consideration of the management perspective of the information system. Current Research on determining executive information needs have been assimilated prior to the provision of operational, functional and decisional information.
