| Abstract | The draw backs of the IA-1 transplanter, a modified version of the IRRI rice transplanter, Were identified and a new rice transplanter for root-washed seedlings was made with modifications. The modified transplanter has satisfactory performance using 2-point non-grasping type pickers attached with pusher and spring hoppers, tested on a soil with sedimentation period of 10 days, with 1-3 cm. depth of water. The field capacity of the modified transplanter was measured to be about 0.025 hectare per hour with a field machine index of 98% and a field efficiency of 63% The labour requirement for the modified transplanter was measured to be about 40 man-hours per hectare which reduced the labour requirement of the laborious hand transplanting method by about 74% For the over all transplanting operation, the labour requirement of the machine transplanting method was measured to be 276 man-hours per hectare which reduced the labour requirement of the hand transplanting method by 29% |
