AbstractA simulation model was set up to study the cutting and harvesting performance of water hyacinth harvester. A water tank was constructed to simulate a waterway and two carriages were manufactured to simulate harvester boats. The experiments were conducted in two parts. The first. part was conducted to compare two wood cutter saw blades with different numbers of teeth.. The tests were conducted to fin d the efficient depth of cut and efficient rotational speed of the cutter blade in completely separated mats of water hyacinth. The power requirement by the cutter blade was measured. A slatted conveyor combine with a pick- up reel. was tested for the efficient picking-up of hyacinth. The slatted conveyor and pi.ck- up reel were tested with three sizes of plant: small, medium, and tall. The harvesting capacity is 6.5 Tonne/hr/meter width of conveyor and the maxi mum power consumption was 3 kW with the mean energy requirement 0 .496 kWh/Tonne. The harvesting machine offered and considerable efficiency, however, constraints in the model. Further harvester under the real conditions is needed.
