AbstractThe comparison between Hydrograph and Duration curve methods of automatic calibration technique for the Tank Model is carried out using data of the Ping River basin at Ban Tha Sala gauging station, whose drainage area is 14023 sq.km. The precipitation data used in this study is the average of all 12 precipitation stations available in the basin. The fitting of the hydrograph is satisfactory in both calibration period, April 1973 to March 1976 and verification period , April 1976 to March 1978. Different statistical criteria are used to choose the best fit of the Hydrograph. The result shows that Hydrograph Method is slightly better than Duration Curve Method . Further investigation of the Tank Model is carried out to find out he best time lag of precipitation on discharge. The same automatic calibration technique is applied to find the best model when the time lag between precipitation and discharge is introduced. The study show that the best time lag of precipitation on discharge lags by two days. So, this model is capable to forecast discharge two days in advance.
