Abstract | The main purpose of this study is to develop a microcomputer aided design program of ferrocement storage tanks. The
developed program has the capacity to analyze and design tanks with vury1ng wall thickness, tanks that are prestressed at certain parts, and storage tanks 'partly embedded in the ground.
A semi-analytical approach is adopted in the analysis of the
tank wall. At first the tank is divided into 'N' sections and an
analytical procedure using a displacement function with '4'
unknown coefficients is derived for section which is fully
decried by '4' boundary (or continuity) conditions. This
results in a system with '4 * N' simultaneous equations and an
equal number of unknowns. Finally by substituting these
coefficients in to the displacement/force· functions, the analysis of the tank wall is carried out. The results obtained are presented in the form of design tables and charts so that they can directly be used for on-site construction. Tanks have been classified as small, medium or large capacity containers depending upon their nature and use. A wide range of options in design depending upon the user's constraints can be tried with the aid of the program developed. |
