Abstract | This study was undertaken to find out which of the Jensen-Haise method) based on climatological data for prediction of reference crop evapotranspiration (ETo)are applicable for Thailand. The methods were compared against observed ETo, where ETo observed was obtained by the ration of measured crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and crop coefficient (Kc) published by FAO. The suitability of the prediction methods was different in the case of ETo observed derived from ETc measurements of lowland rice and in the case of ETo (obs) obtained from ETc Measurements of upland crops. The suitability of the methods was also checked by a correlation with the change in climate. The results indicated that there was no correlation. The general trend of ETo estimated by all the methods and ETo (obs) was the same. All the methods underestimate ETo in the case of lowland rice, but the modified Penman method gave the best estimation of ETo. In case of upland crops ETo observed was within the range of of all estimation methods, and the Pan Evaporation method gave the best estimation of ETo. The Radiation and the Modified Penman methods gave a good correlation in case of lowland rice and the Jensen-Haise in case of upland crops There was a good correlation between ETo observed and climatological parameters. |
