AbstractA computer-aided design procedure of a weir is provided to search the most economical combination of weir components under surface and subsurface hydraulic considerations. Two-dimensional weir is analysed and cost of weir (comprises upstream apron, downstream apron, weir body, earth work and cut off) including the driving cost of cut off is considered. Cost of dewatering is not included in the analysis. The subsurface behaviour of seepage flow under a weir is determined by numerical model based on the finite element technique. The numerical model results for a selected example are checked with the results electrical analog method in the laboratory. The effects of every weir components of the weir construction cost are analyzed and discussed.
