AbstractA Guide to compare the competitiveness of three various floor systems used in Thailand; i.e., precast concrete slab on reinforced concrete beams, precast concrete slab on steel beams, and post-tensioned flat plates is proposed in the study. In addition, another floor system; i.e., the composite steel deck slab, which is widely used in U.S.A., is also considered to see its potential for application in Thailand. Investigation of each fold system has been made on 4 selected span lengths of 6.00, 8.00, 10.00 and 12.00m. with 3 different specified live loads of 200, 300 and 400 kg/m2, respectively, with additional constant supperimposede dead load of 100 kg/m2 for each live load case. Consideration of cost, weight, required depth, construction time and process has been accounted for. From this study, various comparison about cost per unit area, weight per unit area, required depth, and construction time of each floor system can be made. Varying live load cases are proved to have no effect on the comparative trends of cost, weight, and depth between each system with the same length. Only varying span lengths have effects on such trends, which are presented in details herein. The construction time required for 3 floor systems; i.e. the precast concrete slab with steel beams, the post-tensioned float plate, and the composite steel deck slab, is 6 day, whereas that for the precast concrete slab with reinforced concrete beam is 9 days.
