AbstractThis research has been conducted in order to evaluate farm level water management, at the head, middle and tail of an improved as well as an unimproved water course. Physical layout, channel hydraulics, scheduling of irrigation, distribution, the warabandi system and supply of irrigation water were studied in the selected fields commanded by both the water courses. Warabandi was not followed by the farmers, who used to modify this system by their mutual cooperation. The water losses were found to be higher in the unimproved water course in the form of residual storage losses, but were negligible in the improved water course. The hydraulic parameters of the field ditches of the improved water course were found to be closer to those of the best hydraulic section, whereas, there were many variations in the hydraulic parameters of the field ditches of the unimproved water course.
