AbstractThis paper suggests the use of Monte Carlo simulation to the facility overbooking problem. The model was initially tested to the air line situation and the results were found to be encouraging in terms of both computation and accuracy . In fact , the model is working even on a microcomputer while almost all published structured mathematical models are mainframe-oriented. Due to its efficiency, the model was further applied to the problem of scholarship granting of the Asian Institute of Technology. The optimal number of scholarship offers to be made by the Institute as a function of time was determined . The analysis was done on a per term, per division and per nationality grouping bas is. The results obtained from the simulation model are comparable to the values of the analytical solution to the problem.
