Abstract | This study describes a simulation model to investigate the influence of the priority rules in combination with alternate routings on the performance of flexible manufacturing systems CFMS). The alternate routings might be directed to avoid a long queue at the stations. Two problems are tested and the test results are compared with the performance achieved using no alternate routings. Results show that alternate routings can reduce flow time (and therefore in-process inventory) while increasing machine utilization. The study also investigate the influence of priority rules on the performance and found that the STPT rule give better performance among the other rules. |
