AbstractThis study presents development of a mathematical morphological model for bed scour and deposition around a groyne. The results of the mathematical model were compared with the experimental results given in the RAJARATNAM (1983) IAHR journal. The k-£ turbulence model was used with the two dimensional depth average hydrodynamic model to predict the local distribution of eddy viscosity and eddy diffusivity and finally the flow field. The existing two- dimensional depth averaged k-£ model was modified to suit this study. For the morphological model, the sediment balance equation and the sediment transport formula are solved through the finite difference method. The Meyer-Peter and Muller equation was applied in the computation. Correction factors on friction coefficient and angel of repose were introduced after a number of trial runs due to the non-uniform flow condition and formation of eddies at the vicinity of the groyne and due to the bed form roughness. Final results after corrections are found to agree quite closely with the experimental data.
