AbstractThe pattern of comparative advantage of manufacturing industries in ASEAN countries was analysed in this study to identify the sectors having comparative advantage in each of ASEAN members and the ASEAN region as a whole. Manufacturing industries in five ASEAN nations, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, were examined for their comparative advantages by using Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) indicators and Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) coefficients. All ASEAN manufacturing sectors were ranked according to their respective RCA indicators estimated, and the pattern of industrial comparative advantage was examined. The DRC coefficients for the manufacturing sectors in the Philippines were calculated and the results were compared with the respective RCA analysis results for consistency between present and potential comparative advantages.
