Abstract | Digital transformation is the inevitable trend across industries and businesses. The immense benefits of digital technologies in the transformation journey have been presented in various industries such as manufacturing, media, and services. Not being immune to its impact, digital transformation applications shows the potential to address key challenges in terms of productivity, quality, cost, and risks in the construction industry. There is increasing implementation of digital transformation in construction in this modern age. However, the transformation influences through digital technologies is yet to be fully assessed within the context of construction project management, which is an important part of effectiveness and efficiency in construction projects. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to provide an overall understanding of digital transformation and explore key digital technologies and their impacts in the construction industry. Three construction projects in Vietnam will be discussed to study the effect of digital transformation in the project development process. The results showed that digital technologies have significantly enhanced construction project management with better project performance. Moreover, the highlights of common and differences in the practical adoption of digital technologies will provide insights and deployment methods on digital transformation in construction projects. The thesis also proposes the conceptual framework for the transformation adoptions in construction project management to make the absolute most of the digital technologies throughout the project life cycle to achieve better outcomes. |
